I never really quite got into Actor, I enjoyed a few individual tracks, but I need to like an album as a whole to give any of the songs repeated listens. But I was intrigued enough by it to give Strange Mercy a few listens. I like it so much better than Actor; I was more drawn in by the opener than by any track on that album. I was a little worried at “Champagne Year” that It was going to just trail off, but then you get two solid tracks and this gem, the closing track on the album to finish it off strong. There really isn’t any other artist out there like St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, and I’m finally starting to see that as a pretty impressive thing.
